Chinese Vice-Premier Meets Austrian President

Chinese Vice-Premier Qian Qichen met Thursday with Austrian Federal President Thomas Klestil, and the two sides exchanged views on bilateral relations and other issues of common concern.

Qian said that Klestil's visit coincides with the 30th anniversary of the forging of Sino-Austrian diplomatic relations, adding that the two presidents held friendly talks Wednesday, and signed some agreements.

He voiced the belief that the visit would further promote the friendly relations between China and Austria.

Klestil said that he was very pleased to be able to visit China again since his first state visit in 1995. He expressed admiration for the rapid growth of China's economy.

Qian and Klestil also exchanged views on Sino-U.S. relations, and the issue of the National Missile Defense (NMD) system. Qian briefed the guest on Chinese government's stance on the issues of Taiwan and Tibet.

Klestil said that the Austrian government has adhered to the One-China stance for the past 30 years, and that stance will not change in the future. Qian expressed has appreciation.
