DPRK Condemns U.S. Plan to Form Task Force against North
The Democratic People's Republic of Korea condemned the United States for its plan to create a task force against the DPRK in case of a conflict on the Korean Peninsula.
The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said Friday that the plan is one more provocative war move to further strain the situation on the peninsula, spark a chain of arms race and obstruct the national reconciliation and unity between the North and the South.
"This is a clear indication that the Bush administration is only keen to realize its ambition to dominate the world by force although it talks about 'strategic stability' and improving the relations between the DPRK and the United States and between the North and the South," said KCNA.
The U.S. military authorities will reportedly create a brigade to be hurled into the Korean Peninsula from the U.S. mainland within four days after the outbreak of a dispute on the peninsula. The plan is supposed to be part of the Bush administration's "new defense policy."
The brigade, to be formed by 2002, would serve as a task force with greater maneuverability and firepower than the existing units, western media reports said.
the news agency noted that since the hawkish Republican Bush administration came to power, the process of reconciliation on the peninsula is again facing obstacles and the danger of war is increasing.
"This is adversely affecting the situation in the Asia-Pacific and the world," it said.
