Peaceful Reunification of Taiwan a Sacred Mission: Vice-premier

Chinese Vice-premier Qian Qichen said Thursday that an early solution to the Taiwan issue to accomplish the reunification of the motherland is the common aspiration and a sacred mission of the whole Chinese people.

Qian made the remarks while addressing a three-day meeting on publicity work on Taiwan.

Qian stressed it is important to let Taiwan people better know the policy of "peaceful reunification" and "one country, two systems" and the eight-point proposition put forward by President Jiang Zemin.

The vice-premier pointed out that the one-China principle must be adhered to. There is only one China in the world and the sovereignty and territorial integrity of China can not be divided, Qian noted.

The vice premier hopes that Party committees and governments at all levels do a better job in publicity work on Taiwan so as to make contributions to helping solve the Taiwan issue at an earlier date.
