Chinese, Belgian FMs Hold Talks

Sino-Belgian relations have a sound foundation and great development potential, said Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan Wednesday in talks with Louis Michel, Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Tang said since China and Belgium established diplomatic relations 30 years ago, bilateral ties have enjoyed smooth development. In recent years, the two sides have increased exchanges of high-level visits and gratifying achievements have been witnessed in bilateral cooperation in many fields, Tang siad.

China and Belgium have no conflict of interests, share identical or similar views on major international issues, Tang said. The two countries' economies are highly mutually complementary and have great potential for developing mutually beneficial cooperation, he added.

Michel, who is here for a visit and to attend the Third Asia- Europe Meeting (ASEM) Foreign Ministers' Meeting, said this is his first visit to China and he was impressed by China's development in various fields. Belgium will actively promote Belgium-China ties and Europe-China relations, he said.
