Ten Officials Held Responsible for Gas Explosion Arrested

The police have arrested the ten officials held responsible for the gas explosion accident that killed 48 miners in Hancheng, Shaanxi Province, on April 21.

That day a gas explosion occurred in a mine contracted by an individual in the Xiayukou Mine of the Shaanxi Hancheng Mining Administration.

Investigations showed that the accident was caused by breach of duty.

The officials arrested include Deng Zhengxing, former director of the Hangcheng Xiayukou Mine, and Wan Chengxiang, deputy director of the mine in charge of safety. Moreover, the public security department is offering a reward for the capture of Wu Xiudong, the contractor of the mine who is now at large.
