New Platform of People. com. cn Put Into Use
The new platform of People.com.cn was formally put into use on June 5 morning with leaders of relevant departments of the central government attending the inauguration ceremony.
Covering a total floor space of 2,400 square meters, the new office is equipped with an audio-visual studio, guest interview room of BBS, etc. It is the largest Internet office platform in China so far.
Developed from People's Daily Online, which was launched on January 1, 1997, People.com.cn is a website under the People's Daily, a leading newspaper in China. As part of the strategy of the People's Daily to develop itself, People.com.cn, accessible via a special line of 106 mb, has now become one of the largest news websites in China. It offers visitors with 13 news channels, namely "Current Politics", "World", "Opinions", "Economy", "Science and Education", "Society", "IT", "Environment Protection", "Military Affairs", "Culture and entertainment", "Life" and "Photos", seven sub-websites, i.e. "News of Chinese People's Congress", "Union News Net", "Sportsonline", "Healthonline", "Booker.com.cn", "54youth.com.cn" and "Edisc.com.cn". In addition there are still four foreign language websites of English, French, Spanish and Japanese. It also has more than 1,200 news features on various fresh topics like the "80th Anniversary of the Founding of the CPC" and the "50th Anniversary of Peaceful Liberation of Tibet". Nearly 3,000 pieces of news are renewed continuously round the clock every day. The launch of new office indicates a new stage in the development of People.com.cn.
On the same day, the Russian and Arabic versions are formally launched, making the foreign language websites of People.com.cn to six.

The two websites not only contain news channels like "China", "World", "Business", "Science and Education", "Life", "Sports" and "Photo Gallery", but also available with special features on "Russia and the Commonwealth of the Independent States", "Arab Countries", etc.. And the data columns are centered on such subjects as Chinese leaders, Chinese government organs, Chinese laws and regulations, Chinese ethnic groups and tourism in China.
