S. African Party Calls for Non-Racial Society
The South African Communist Party (SACP) on Friday called for a non-racial society in which the needs of black majority people are met.
In a message to mark he 25th anniversary of the country's Youth Day which falls on Saturday, SACP secretary general Blade Nzimande Nzimande urged the youths to fight racism and abuse against women, saying black youth still need equality, education, employment, redistribution of wealth and resources.
He said there should be fundamental changes in the current situation where the economy is in the hands of a few.
Problems facing black youth, and black young women in particular, needed to be addressed in order to secure them a better future, he said.
"But this future will not be possible without fundamentally changing the current situation where the economy is in the hands of a few," he said.
These issues should be addressed in order to build a truly non- racial society in which all South Africans should have a share, he noted.
"During apartheid (era), many young people were active in the struggle to defeat apartheid. However they were not made real players in education, the state, the economy, and other institutions in society," he said.
The needs of black youth have to be addressed first if the country wants to succeed in securing a good future for young people, he said.
