Seminar on Network Education Opens in Changsha

A national seminar on network education was hosted Tuesday in Changsha, capital of central China's Hunan Province.

The three-day seminar at Hunan University also opened a branch meeting in Beijing University via video technology.

More than 600 experts and scholars are attending the seminar and will discuss the country's development of long-distance education via networks.

According to an official with the Ministry of Education, the seminar organizer, since China initiated network education in 1996, some 38 universities nationwide have opened network education courses, providing education for over 160,000 students.

The ministry also made a long-term plan to spread information technology in middle and primary schools over the next five to ten years.

By that time, more than 90 percent of primary and middle school students will have chances to study via networks, the official said.

The organizer has invited some network education experts from the United States, Britain and Hong Kong to give lectures at the seminar.
