Samsung to Establish Research and Development Centers in Tianjin

The Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. of the Republic of Korea will set up several research and development centers in north China port city in Tianjin, Samsung president Yun Jong Yong announced recently in Tianjin.

At the same time, the two sides have agreed to establish a long- term partnership of strategic cooperation.

Yun Jong Yong said the cooperation between the Samsung and Tianjin's electronics industry is the best example among Samsung's investments around the world, adding he was confident about the prospect of bilateral cooperation in the future.

Samsung began to invest in Tianjin in 1993. The purpose of the establishment of several Samsung research and development centers is to transfer more technologies and train more researchers and developers in Tianjin, in order to promote production of Samsung products which sell well locally, sources with the Samsung said.

Currently, Samsung and the Tianjin Electronic Instrument Industrial Corporation have set up nine joint ventures, involving a total investment of 929 million U.S. dollars.
