Greater Cooperation with Overseas Chinese Expected

Guo Dongpo, director of the Office of Overseas Chinese Affairs stressed three major opportunities for greater cooperation to be developed by China with overseas Chinese in his topical report at the opening ceremony of "New Century Overseas Chinese Organizations Sodality" on Wednesday.

First, western China development strategy as is now being implemented in China provides overseas Chinese with broad market prospects. China's western regions have unique advantages and tremendous potential for further development. Under a unified development policy, great investments have been earmarked as support and with preferential policies formulated great flexibility has been shown to encourage foreign investors to participate in joint western China development. A more relaxed environment for foreign fund usage will come into being in western China which will make it a highlight and focus for developing cooperation and exchanges with overseas Chinese.

Second, China's WTO access will give overseas Chinese a change to show their advantages in China. Overseas Chinese will have more opportunities for investment during a further opening of the country. They will play a much more important role in recommending and promoting cooperation and exchanges between foreign investors and China.

Third, acting on the strategy of rejuvenating the country through science and technology, China implements a series of preferential policies and encourages overseas Chinese to set up hi-tech enterprises or invest in the industries to renovate traditional industries by hi-technology in China. Overseas hi-tech talents and hi-tech enterprises will be offered broad manoeuvring ground to give full play to their talents and capabilities.

The 21st Century will be a best period of time for China to develop cooperation with overseas Chinese, Guo Dongpo said, overseas compatriots are expected to grasp the opportunities to contribute to the great cause of China in its advance to a new stage.
