"Ice" Drug Smugglers Seized at Beijing Airport

The Beijing Customs surveillance police seized 1,858.9 grams of the "ice" drug at the capital airport on June 7, a customs official said Wednesday.

This is the largest amount of the drug ever seized since the establishment of Beijing Customs in 1951, sources said.

On June 7, the furtive expressions and large suits worn by two foreign passengers, later identified from Japan and the Republic of Korea, caught the airport policemen's attention and resulted in the recovery of the "ice", which was contained in plastic bags strapped around their waists, according to customs officers.

The two had planned to take flight CA125 to Seoul, police said, adding the case is still under investigation.

The "Ice" drug, academically termed deoxidized ephedrine, looks like white crystals and is a highly addictive chemical compound.
