Cuba Says It Frustrates Incursion by Armed Men from US
Cuba announced Wednesday it had frustrated the first incursion by US-based anti-Cuba elements since US President George W. Bush took office.
According to a Cuban security official, the country's Coast Guard captured three individuals after exchanging fire on April 26 on the north coast of central Villa Calara province. The infiltrators carried AK-47 assault rifles, guns, one sniper rifle and 3,000 US dollars in cash.
These men, identified as Ihosvanni Suris, Santiago Padron and Maximo Padrera, were linked to the Miami-based Cuban American National Foundation, the official, Manuel Heyvia, was quoted by a TV report as saying on Wednesday.
The United States, which does not have diplomatic relations with Cuba, has maintained an economic embargo on Havana for over 40 years. Bush has announced his government will strengthen the embargo against the Caribbean country.
