Ethiopia Accuses Eritrea of Hampering Establishment of TSZEthiopia Thursday accused Eritrea of blocking the establishment of the Temporary Security Zone (TSZ) for its refusal of recent map issued by the United Nations Mission in Ethiopia and Eritrea (UNMEE).The establishment of the TSZ was expected to get a final solution at the seventh UNMEE military coordination commission meeting, which was held in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, on Wednesday, but this did not happen as Eritrea still remains unwilling to commit itself to the working map, said a report here on Thursday. The report quoted the Ethiopian UNMEE coordination bureau as saying that the Eritrean delegation to the meeting announced that Eritrea does not generally accept the southern boundary of the TSZ indicated on the map prepared by the UNMEE. The bureau noted that the Eritrean government will make its position clear on the issue soon, the report said. The UNMEE reportedly presented the map showing the southern and northern boundaries of the TSZ to the two sides on June 21 and 22. The commission meeting also discussed the issue of the deployment of Eritrean police and militia forces in the TSZ. It said that Eritrea has been requested to reduce the number of the police and militia force inside the TSZ to at least the size before the war. However, the bureau, said the Eritrean delegation turned a deaf ear to the international appeals, saying their government intends to deploy more police and militia force to the TSZ. The Eritrean side has also failed to accept the issue raised for the establishment of a sub-military coordination commission charged with the task of monitoring and seeking solutions created by the Eritrean police and militia in the southern security zone, the report added. |
