DPRK Top Leader Attends Banquet to Mark CPC's 80th Birthday

General Secretary of the Workers' Party and Chairman of the National Defense Commission Kim Jong Il Sunday attended the banquet given by Chinese Ambassador Wang Guozhang to mark the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Congratulating the Chinese people on CPC's 80th birthday, Kim expressed appreciation of CPC General Secretary Jiang Zemin's emphasis on party building and his idea of "three representations, "

Without the Communist Party, there would be no New China. Without the leadership of the Communist Party, there would be no modernization of the country, he added.

The "three representations" refer to the fact that the CPC represents the development requirements of China's advanced social productive forces, the progressive course of China's advanced culture, and the fundamental interests of the overwhelming majority of the Chinese people.

In a speech at the banquet, Kim Il Chol, Vice Chairman of the National Defense Commission and Minister of the People's Armed Forces, said that furthering bilateral ties is the common aspiration of the two peoples.

He expressed the wish that the friendship between the two countries, fostered by the leaders of the older generation and through the concerted efforts of the two parties and peoples, would be strengthened and continue to grow in the new century.
