President Jiang Meets International Nano Technologists

President Jiang Meets International Nano Technologists
Chinese President Jiang Zemin met Tuesday with international nano technologists, who are attending the 2001 international forum on nano materials, at Beijing's Great Hall of the People.

Owing to the state's full support, Chinese experts in the field have gained great achievements in the research and development of nanotechnology, Jiang said.

China has decided to give great importance to the research and development of new materials and nano materials in the five-year plan from 2001 to 2005 on economic and social development, he said, adding that the application of nanotechnology is of strategic significance for China's high-tech and economic development.

The president hoped that the forum will help worldwide nano experts exchange their latest achievements and views on the perspective of the technology.

The technologists believed that the forum, attended by more than 500 domestic and overseas experts, will help improve international cooperation in nanotechnology.
