Senior Chinese Official Meets Chairman of SM Group

Jia Qinglin, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, met Wednesday with Henry Sy, chairman of the SM Group of the Philippines.

Jia briefed the guest about the development of commerce in Beijing, saying that there are good opportunities for businessmen to invest in Beijing.

Jia, also secretary of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the CPC, also expressed the hope that the SM Group would invest in the Chinese capital.

Sy said he is here to explore business opportunities in Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai and some other Chinese cities.

SM, one of Asia's leading department stores, has invested nearly one billion U.S. dollars in east China's Fujian Province.
