Kenya Congratulates Beijing for Winning 2008 Olympics

Kenya expressed warm congratulations to China immediately after the Chinese capital city of Beijing was declared the winner to host the 2008 Olympic Games.

In a telephone interview, Tom O'Omuombo, secretary general of the Kenyan National Olympic Committee, said that China and African countries are all developing countries, and China has made great contributions to African countries in terms of economic and sports development.

"China's victory is our victory," he said. "I expressed my hearty congratulations to Beijing on behalf of the Kenyan National Olympic Committee."

The International Olympic Committee picked Beijing on Friday over rival bids from Toronto, Paris, Istanbul, Turkey and Osaka. Beijing won on the second round of a secret ballot by receiving 56 votes, four more than a majority.
