Zhang Yimou Wishes to Direct Opening/Closing Ceremonies of 2008 Games

The promotional film for Beijing's 2008 Olympics Bid by famous director Zhang Yimou has turned out a big success that left a deep impression on IOC members. In a latest interview by reporters Zhang expressed his another wish, namely to direct the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Games.

I'm very happy and excited and all of us jumped for joy the moment we saw the final vote. It's my honor to direct the film, Zhang says. It is only four minutes long but I believe myriad people are watching it round the world, including hundreds of millions Chinese people, he adds. Never in the past did I have such experience. As a film director I'm very pleased to have so many people enjoy the film, let alone the great significance it has to take on.

Zhang attributed the success to the progress the country has made, to the national conditions and it's a necessary result of the development of the country to this day. He says directing the film is a special and unforgettable experience for him, much different from that of ordinary films.

When asked about plans in the coming seven years, Zhang hopes to act as director of opening and closing ceremonies in 2008.
