China Concerned About Macedonian Situation

China, as one of the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, will continue to make its due contributions to an early realization of stability in Macedonia.

Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Sun Yuxi made the remark Friday when asked to comment on the situation in Macedonia since its government refused proposals by western mediators and the political dialog between Macedonian government and ethnic Albanian has come to a deadlock.

Noting that China is very much concerned about the development of situations in Macedonia, Sun said that China has always respected the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Macedonia, condemned extremists' terrorist activities, and supported any effort conducive to safeguarding Macedonian national and regional stability.

The Chinese side holds that the top priority for Macedonia now is to realize national stability and reconciliation at an early date so as to seek for a common development, which is in the fundamental and long-term interests of the country and all its ethnic groups, Sun said.

China hopes and believes that concerned parties of Macedonia can find a proper political solution through patient dialogs, he added.

He stressed that China holds that any participation of external forces can play a positive role only when it is based on concrete safeguarding of Macedonia's sovereignty and territorial integrity and on acceptance by all concerned parties of Macedonia.
