Indonesian Most Legislators Agree to Hold Early Special Session

Indonesian most legislators Saturday agreed to hold an early special session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) to seek a presidential accountability.

The legislators came from the 186-member of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle, the 183-member of the Golkar Party, the 67-member of the United Development Party and the 48-member of the Reform faction.

The Military/Police faction felt confident that the session will take a best solution in this matter.

The 700-member MPR convened a plenary session here on Saturday morning to decide whether the special session to seek a presidential accountability can begin immediately.

Should the MPR plenary session be approved, the president may have to present his accountability speech on Monday, which, if he fails to do or is rejected, could see him ousted within days.

The MPR was originally scheduled to hold a special meeting on August 1.

In a letter to the MPR leaders, the 57-member National Awakening Party (PKB) which was founded by President Abdurrahman Wahid said they had decided not to attend the session.
