Fujian's Economy Reports Steady Growth

Fujian Province in east China has reported 9.3 percent growth in its gross domestic product (GDP) in the first half of the year, according to the provincial statistics bureau.

The province produced a GDP of 177.498 billion yuan in the first six months of the year.

Its primary industry produced an added value of 20.027 billion yuan in the same period, up 3.2 percent. Fujian's secondary industry produced an added value of 85.069 billion yuan, up 10.6 percent. The tertiary industry produced 72.402 billion yuan, a rise of 9.6 percent.

Fujian's exports grew 7.3 percent to 6.541 billion U.S. dollars during the period. Contracted overseas investment totaled 2.39 billion U.S. dollars, up 14.6 percent compared with the same period of last year.

Investment from Taiwan soared by 66.7 percent to 535 million U. S. dollars.

The province's investment in fixed assets reached 29.92 billion yuan, representing a growth of 8.8 percent.

The total volume of commodity retail sales posted a 10-percent growth to hit 73.228 billion yuan.

The disposable income of urbanites averaged 4,280.3 yuan in the first six months of the year, increasing 7 percent over the corresponding period of last year.
