Can Annette Lu Scare Taiwan Businesspeople?

Annette Lu, a diehard "Taiwan independence" element, after lamenting over the situation that "there is nothing more to be done", has "opened a new road of her own" by setting up a "label factory" of hostility toward the mainland to confuse public opinions and delude the people with rumor.

At a recent gathering of Taiwan businessmen, Lu spread the rumor that the mainland "is not the paradise for investment" where "there is full of traps everywhere", and threatened that Taiwan businessmen investing in the mainland were like "flying moths darting into the fire" to court their own destruction, claiming that only Taiwan was the place for "setting down to a quiet life".

Hong Kong and Taiwan media have said that Lu's fallacious, ill-intentioned remarks are aimed at driving a wedge between the Taiwan people and the motherland in an attempt to divert people's attention and shirk Taiwan authorities' responsibility for their "incompetent administration".

Facts speak louder than words. The number of Taiwan-funded enterprises in the Chinese mainland has exceeded 40,000. Making use of the mainland's superiority in raw materials, labor market and favorable investment environment, they have experienced varying degrees of development in many fields and some of them have achieved a high rate of economic returns.

At the same time, By investing in the mainland, Taiwan businessmen have also made certain contribution to the Island's economic development. Is the mainland the ideal place for Taiwan investments? Are there full of traps everywhere in the mainland?

The broad masses of Taiwan businesspeople are very clear about this. If the mainland is so bad as the dark picture depicted by Lu, why do Taiwan business people are still streaming in to invest in the mainland? Why do people on the Island still strongly demand that Taiwan authorities abandon the "no haste, be patient" policy and open direct, cross-Strait "three links" (in mail, trade and transportation)? Can it be that the Taiwan people do not want to live a happy life, do they plunge themselves into the traps till they reach the darkness though they are well aware of the traps there?

Since the new leader of the Taiwan authorities took office last year, he has continually provoked political disputes, pursued vacillating policies, disavowed one China and the "1992 Consensus", resulting in cross-Strait tension and political turbulence in the Island, worsened the Island's investment environment and obstructed Taiwan's economic development, thus aggravating the confidence crisis of the Taiwan people. It is impossible for the Taiwan authorities to shirk their responsibility for Taiwan's economic recession.

Annette Lu put a label-"being bought over at high price by the mainland"--on Taiwan's media, charging them with "reporting only the good things and not the bad" to the mainland, and "reporting only bad things and not good ones" to the Taiwan authorities, with the result that the outside world misunderstands that Taiwan faces serious economic problems.

What a wonder! The fact that the motherland enjoys social stability and sustained economic growth has attracted the attention of the world's people. Can it be that this is something cooked up by the media? Can it be that Taiwan's continued economic deterioration and frequent political turbulence have emerged as a result of media reports? Taiwan people have suffered greatly from economic depression, unemployment rate has repeatedly come to new high, people's suffering index has risen, can this be something fabricated by the media?

Annette Lu, ignoring facts, has brought out one vicious "label" after another in an attempt to intimidate and obstruct Taiwan businessmen's ever-closer economic exchanges with China's mainland and at the same time to shirt her due responsibility for Taiwan's economic recession. How can such a person bring a better life for Taiwan?
