Ethiopian Police to Bring Riot Suspects to Trial
The Ethiopian police authority would finalize within the coming two weeks its investigation into the cases of individuals accused of looting and property destruction during last April's riot in the capital of Addis Ababa.
The police have found ample evidences that would corroborate its accusation against most of the suspects, Sisay Tadesse, Legal Service Head of the Metropolitan Police Commission, was quoted by the Ethiopian News Agency on Sunday as saying.
He said police would file charges of vandalism, robbery and riot instigation against the suspects, adding that there were some suspects who had been released on bail.
At least 31 people were killed and 253 others injured in the upheaval that followed the clashes between the police and Addis Ababa University students.
About 20 police vehicles were damaged while 48 governmental and private institutions looted in the riot.
