China to Earn 800 Mln Dlrs from Motorbike Exports by 2005

China is expected to earn 800 million U.S. dollars from the export of motorcycles by the year 2005, an official with the automotive section of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade said Friday.

As a major measure to develop an export-oriented motorcycle industry, he said, China also encourages a number of key motorcycle enterprises to establish joint-venture companies overseas so as to take a bigger share of the international market.

China's motorcycle industry has been exporting cheap and good- quality products for many years, with a number of sales channels worldwide.

Last year, Chinese motorcycles were exported to 121 countries and regions, with a total earning of 747 million U.S. dollars.

While working hard to adjust the product mix, the official said, the motorcycle industry will intensify efforts to improve its development capability and establish a research and development center that is up to the current international advanced level.
