Zhejiang University Produces Its First Distance Education Graduates

Zhejiang University's first group of 255 distance education students recently graduated and acquired State-approved certificates, following their successful three-year online courses, according to Beijing Review.

One of the first universities to begin distance education, Zhejiang University recruited 308 business administration majors in 1998.

Distance education is a teaching method using a computer network and modern multimedia technology to teach remotely in real time. The interactive technology used not only enables students at different locations to receive the lecture which uses a combination of words, pictures, graphs, sound and animated cartoon messages but also enables the teacher to see the students' reactions and to talk with them directly.

In addition, this interactive teaching method enables both students and teachers to participate in class discussions, and even conduct experiments remotely in virtual laboratories.

Approximately 70 of the 255 graduates completed their graduation oral examination through online meetings.
