NPC Chairman Meets Vietnam Guest
Li Peng, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), met with a delegation of the National Assembly of Vietnam (NAV) led by its Vice Chairman Vu Dinh Cu Monday afternoon.

Li said that he is glad to see that since the normalization of Sino-Vietnamese ties in 1991, bilateral relations in various fields are developing smoothly in the direction of good neighborly friendship and all-round cooperation, which has been defined by the general secretaries of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

He said that China has always paid special attention to developing relations with Vietnam, and the two peoples treasure traditional friendship. The two countries are in similar conditions, they both adhere to the leadership of communist party and pursue a socialist road, and they both focus their efforts on opening-up and reform and economic construction.

The two countries' reinforced cooperation and common development in socialist construction are in the fundamental interest of the two countries and peoples, and it is also beneficial to the peace, stability and development of Asia, he said.

He said that in recent years the NPC and the NAV have conducted good exchanges and frequent visits, and have learned from each other in socialist democratic and legal construction, with good results.

China is willing to carry out more exchanges and cooperation with Vietnam in economic construction.

Vu Dinh Cu passed on greetings from General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Nong Duc Manh and NAV Chairman Nguyen Van An to Li Peng. He said that the CPV and the Vietnamese government pay high attention to developing good neighborly cooperative relations with China, and sincerely hope to learn from each other in socialist construction, so as to further promote the development of friendly cooperative relations between the two countries.

The Vietnamese delegation arrived in Beijing on August 25 for a friendly visit at the invitation of the NPC Standing Committee.

The delegation will tour the power project now being built in the Three Gorges on the Yangtze River. During its stay in Beijing, it held working talks with related Chinese departments.

It will also visit Chongqing, Shenzhen and Guangzhou cities.
