United States Overcome 13-point Deficit to Beat Russia
The United States overcame a 13- point deficit in first half to beat Russia 79-68 in their first game in the top eight finals in the women's basketball competition on Monday.
The Americans used a 12-0 run in about four minutes in the decisive fourth quarter to keep them in touch with the title, which barred them two years ago when they lost to the host Spaniards in the Universiade.
They broke away with Chrisoula Floyd's free-throws when they trailed at 62-61 two minutes into the fourth quarter, and saw themselves 73-62 ahead with 4:20 minutes left.
"We didn't play good defence and transmitting game in the first half, but we made some adjustment to solve the problem in the second," said American coach Debbie Ryan.
Shereka Wright and Chantelle Anderson had 15 points each to lead U.S., and Cori Enghusen added 13 points.
Russia's Natalia Khalturina had a game-high 21 points and nine rebounds.
