Beijing Vows to Honor Commitments to IOC

Beijing organizers will do their best to honor all the commitments they made to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to deliver the best Olympic Games in 2008, said Chinese Olympic Committee (COC) president Yuan Weimin on Tuesday.

"We will try our best to materialize all the commitments that we have made in the bidding so that we can deliver the best Olympic Games in the year of 2008," Yuan, who was executive president of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Bidding Committee ( BOBICO), told IOC president Jacques Rogge in a meeting Tuesday morning.

Rogge, who arrived here Monday morning for a two-day visit to Beijing, held talks with Beijing Mayor Liu Qi and Yuan Tuesday morning on the city's preparations for the 2008 Games.

"I strongly believe the Organizing Committee which is to be set up in China, will under the guidance of you, Mr. President, and the International Olympic Committee, do a good job in organizing the Olympic Games in 2008," Yuan said at the beginning of the meeting.

Rogge, 59, was elected to replace Juan Antonio Samaranch, who had been IOC president for 21 years before retirement at the 112th IOC Session on July 16, three days after Beijing was awarded the 2008 Olympic Games.
