President of Trinidad and Tobago Meets Chinese Defense Minister

China is one of the greatest countries upholding peace in the world, President of Trinidad and Tobago Arthur Napoleon Robinson said Monday during his meeting with Chinese Defense Minister Chi Haotian in the presidential palace in Port of Spain.

Robinson expressed his warm welcome to Chi's visit to Trinidad and Tobago and highlighted its importance since Chi is the first Chinese defense minister to visit the country.

The president said his government will continue developing its friendly and cooperative relationship with China and will adhere to the one-China policy. He also wished China more success.

Chi, also vice chairman of China's Central Military Commission and a state councilor, said the two countries have recorded fruitful cooperation in the political, economic, cultural and military fields in the last 27 years since the establishment of their diplomatic relations.

The Chinese government treasures the traditional ties of friendship between the two countries and is willing to promote their sustained and healthy development in joint efforts with the government of Trinidad and Tobago, said the defense minister.

Chi reiterated China's stance on the Taiwan issue and appreciated Trinidad and Tobago's adherence to the one-China policy.
