Australia Offers Nauru $20million Deal to Take Manoora Asylum Seekers

The Australian Government has signed an agreement with the government of Nauru, guaranteeing fuel supplies in exchange for accepting hundreds of asylum seekers.

Australia's Defence Minister Peter Reith made the announcement after talks with the Nauruan President Rene Harris today.

The agreement is worth about 20-million dollars.

The tiny Pacific island nation has also agreed to accept an additional 237 asylum seekers picked up in international waters by the Australian navy troop carrier Manoora at the weekend.
