Shanghai to Hold First JamboreeA jamboree will be held Saturday night in a famous shopping center in this east China's industrial powerhouse, the first since Shanghai port opened in 1843.The jamboree, known as "happy city", will be held in a square on Nanjing Road, a pedestrian precinct, to attract tens of thousands of young people including domestic and overseas tourists, college students and foreigners working in Shanghai, said a source from the municipal government. A 2.5-meter-high stage has been erected for the occasion, which will feature fountains, laser beams, fireworks and live performances of pop singers from China and bands from Venezuela and France. The 1.5-hour jamboree will mark the opening of a three-week Shanghai Tourist Festival, an annual event featuring art performances, fashion shows and cuisine from home and abroad. |
