Blair Summons Emergency Cabinet Security Meeting After US Attacks

British Prime Minister Tony Blair summoned his senior cabinet ministers for an emergency security meeting on Tuesday following a series of apparent terrorist attacks in the United States.

The government's emergency committee includes Foreign Secretary Jack Straw, Home Secretary David Blunkett and Defense Secretary Geoff Hoon, as well as Blair and his top security advisors.

Blair has cancelled his major speech at Britain's Trade Union Congress annual conference in England's southeastern resort of Brighton and returned to London for emergency meeting.

He said he was "terribly shocked" by the devastating attacks, while Foreign Secretary Jack Straw has promised British help to find the perpetrators.

London's Stock Exchange has been evacuated.
