Nanjing Buries Time Capsule on Japanese Invasion
The memorial hall of the Nanjing Massacre victims buried a time capsule filled with documents of the Japanese invasion to China 70 years ago so that future generations will be able to learn from the events of history.
Zhu Chengshan, head of the memorial hall in Jiangsu Province, east China, said it is an international practice to put materials related to an important event in a sealed container underground for 50 years or a century, to be dug up years later.
Hong Kong-based businessman Fong Yun-wah made the suggestion late last month, which was been supported by the memorial hall.
The 30-centimeter-high buried jar contains a photo album, an epigraph album and a collection of matchbox covers depicting the Nanjing Massacre, as well as a souvenir badge made by Japanese militarists to mark their "progress" in China, which was donated by Fong, and souvenirs marking the 50th anniversary of the triumph of the War of Resistance Against Japan and World War II.
On September 18, 1931, Japanese troops attacked the Chinese army stationed in northeast China and then occupied Heilongjiang, Jilin and Liaoning provinces in the northeast.
