Vietnam Welcomes China's Joining WTO

Vietnam welcomes China's entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO), a Vietnamese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said.

Vietnamese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Phan Thuy Thanh made the remarks at a regular press conference Thursday when answering a question on Vietnam's reaction to China's accession to the WTO after 15 years of negotiations.

This is an important event for China as well as for the world economy, she noted.

The spokeswoman said that as a big economy in the region and the world, China's admission to the organization presents new opportunities as well as challenges for Vietnam.

It will help Vietnamese businesses to have quick, easy and more favorable access to China's vast and potential markets, Thanh said.

On the other hand, Thanh added, this also requires more efforts of Vietnamese businesses to raise the competitiveness of Vietnamese goods.
