Former Yunnan Governor Expelled from NPC

Li Jiating, former governor of southwest China's Yunnan Province, has been expelled from the National People's Congress (NPC) because of corruption charges, the NPC Standing Committee announced Thursday.

Li is no longer a deputy to the Ninth NPC because he has been dismissed from the position by the Standing Committee of the Yunnan Provincial People's Congress, the announcement of the Standing Committee of the NPC said.

In a document yesterday by the Communist Party of China Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, Li was charged with taking bribes totaling 1.19 million yuan from nine people, and arranging illegal gains for other people by abusing his position

In addition, the commission accused Li of having adulterous relations with a married woman, and procuring some 30 million yuan in illegal income for her.
