Article Calls for Fulfillment of Reunification of China
A commemorative article was published by Xinhua News Agency Monday to honour the 90th anniversary of the Revolution of 1911, which falls on Wednesday.
Entitled "fulfill the great cause of reunification and realize rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, in commemorating the 90th anniversary of the Revolution of 1911", the article eulogized the enduring achievements of the Revolution of 1911, led by Dr. Sun Yat-Sen. It says the Revolution of 1911 put an end to the more than 2,000-year-old autocratic system in China, smashed, to some extent, the restrictions exercised by the feudal system on productivity and helped emancipate people's mind.
"Revolutionaries of 1911, with Sun Yat-Sen as the leader, who were devoted to rejuvenating the Chinese nation and bringing prosperity to the state, died with their mission unfulfilled," says the article. "The cruel reality has encouraged the Chinese people to carry on the struggle and continue to think deeply."
Led by the Communist Party of China (CPC), the Chinese people now understood the drive and ambition of the revolutionary martyrs of 1911, the article goes on.
According to the article, Dr. Sun Yat-Sen was the first to put forward the slogan of "rejuvenating the Chinese nation" and even drew up a blueprint of modernizing China in his books, advocating that "construction is the sole purpose of revolution" and the " doctrine of openness" should be practiced if China wants to catch up with the developed countries.
"Patriotism and being enterprising inherited from the revolutionary martyrs of 1911 have enabled us to achieve our great mission of reunifying China," the article states.
Building a unified, democratic and strong China is not only the century-old aspiration of the Chinese people, but was also the life-long cause of the martyrs of the Revolution of 1911, it says, urging younger generations of the Chinese people, including Taiwan compatriots, to make new and greater contributions to the reunification of the motherland in the near future and to the civilization of the mankind in the new century.
On October 10, 1911, a popular uprising against the government of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) broke out in Wuchang, central China's Hubei Province. It led to the overthrowing of the Qing Dynasty and the establishment of the Republic of China in 1912.
