Retail Multinationals Expand China Operations

Wal-Mart of the United States and Carrefour of France, two of the world's leading retail businesses, will open chain stores in Jinan, capital of east China's Shandong Province.

According to company sources, Wal-Mart, which employs more than 4,500 Chinese workers in its China outlets at present, plans to set up a distribution center in Jinan for its operations in the province.

Wal-Mart's first China store was opened in south China city of Shenzhen in 1996. The Jinan store will have a floor area of 50,000 square meters and go into operation next year.

Carrefour also made its decision on location of its Jinan store, which will start construction and completed in the second half of next year.
