Chinese State Councilor Wu Yi Meets Cuban Minister of Foreign Trade

Chinese State Councilor Wu Yi said Wednesday that she believes the friendly relations as well as the trade and economic cooperation between China and Cuba will have a better growth under the joint efforts of the two sides.

Wu made the remarks during a meeting with Cuban Minister of Foreign Trade Raul de la Nuez Ramires, who is here on a visit to China.

Chinese President Jiang Zemin visited Cuba last April, and that visit has resulted in a comprehensive development of relations between the two countries, Wu noted.

Trade between the two has grown smoothly over the past years and Cuba has become a leading trading partner of China in the Caribbean region, she said.

Nuez said his current visit to China is aimed at exploring new channels and ways to broaden trade and economic cooperation between the two countries. Cuba also wants to learn from the experiences of the reform of China's state-owned enterprises.

The Cuban minister thanked China for its long-term assistance and congratulated China for its upcoming entry into the World Trade Organization.
