Dover Tragedy Repeated, 26 Suffocated Illegal Migrants Thrown into Sea

More than 60 illegal immigrants, tried to enter South Korea by hiding themselves in an airtight fish cabin. During the voyage 26 of them were suffocated to death and their bodies were thrown into sea by South Korean human smugglers in an attempt to eliminate evidence of their crime. The rest 34 were under detention by police as soon as they landed on an island near the Yosu city. Now the case is under investigation.

The South Korean police arrested a man surnamed Li who tried to land at around 9:00 am on October 8, the police office of Yosu was quoted as saying by Chosun Ilbo. During inquiry the fact was found that 26 people died and then thrown into sea sorth of Yosu.

Primary impression shows that these immigrants were suffocated in an airtight fish-storing cabin. As reported, the cabin is only 3 meters in height, even not big enough for so many people to stand straight.

The police have arrested 8 suspects, all crew of the boat, including Li, under the charge of involuntary manslaughter through neglect of duty and abandonment of bodies, and further investigation is needed.
