China to Strengthen Cooperation with ROK: Li Peng

Chinese Top Legislator Meets ROK Delegation
China is pleased with the smooth and healthy development of bilateral relations with the Republic of Korea (ROK) and is willing to strengthen cooperation between the two parties, Chinese top lawmaker Li Peng said .

"As close neighbors, China and the ROK are similar in economic development and China is willing to work with the ROK in international and regional affairs, as well as in mutually beneficial economic areas," Li said when meeting Kang Young-Hun, former Prime Minister of ROK.

Kang, as consultant to the 21st Century Korea-China Leaders Society, is heading its delegation to China-ROK Leaders Forum to be held in Yangzhou, east China's Jiangsu Province on October 14.

Li, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, said that China will, as always, devote itself to peace and stability in the Korean Peninsula and support its peaceful reunification through dialogue and reconciliation by the ROK and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

Kang expressed gratitude for China's support to the cause of peaceful reunification of the peninsula and said he will make further efforts toward the development of cooperative relations between the two countries.

Li also outlined China's stance and principles on international cooperation to combat terrorism, which Kang fully agreed with.

Kang is here at the invitation of the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs, which will co-sponsor the Yangzhou Forum on Sunday with the 21st Century Korea-China Leaders Society.
