"Shanghai people are fully prepared for the coming APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) Economic Leaders' Meeting and earnestly welcome the guests," Xu Kuangdi, mayor of Shanghai, told Xinhua Thursday.

Xu said that all preparations have been done well. To provide the best facilities and places for the meeting, Shanghai upgraded the scientific and technology museum and the Shanghai international news center. Facilities including the airport, telecommunications, road and financial services have been largely improved.

Over 1,000 volunteers are ready for the meeting. On the security issue, Xu said that after several rehearsals, Shanghai is now the safest city in the world, and the municipality can ensure the safety of all the APEC guests.

Xu also noted that related departments also took measures to guarantee the normal lives of Shanghai citizens, avoid inconveniences caused by the meeting.

From October 15 to 21, a series of APEC meetings will be held in Shanghai, which will attract over 10,000 leaders, scholars, entrepreneurs and reporters.
