Armstrong Hopes for First Olympic Medals in Sydney

Cancer hero Lance Armstrong is battling from his injuries, hoping for his first-ever Olympic medal in Sydney after retaining his Tour de France title this year.

Recovering from injuries, "Lance is planning on being here, planning on racing and planning on winning," said U.S. cycling team manager Sean Petty on Tuesday, adding that Armstrong who was still a little sore, pledged to challenge for two gold medals in Sydney.

Armstrong, who suffered testicular cancer after the Atlanta Olympics, returned to the world cycling arena by winning back-to-back titles in the Tour de France in the past two years.

However, he suffered an injury two weeks ago by fracturing a vertebra between his neck and shoulder blade, and was recuperating in France.

"My neck is still fairly tight, especially in the night and the morning, and it seems to have affected other areas around the C7 as well," said the American rider in his website.

"I'm cautiously optimistic about my chances in Sydney, but my biggest concern is that flight to Australia -- 24 hours," he said.

If fully fit, Armstrong would be one of the favourites for the September 27 road race and the September 30 time trial. Enditem
