Women's Soccer Match Kicks off Olympics

CANBERRA, September 13

The women's soccer matches with Australia taking on Germany in Canberra and Brazil playing Sweden in Melbourne kicked off the 2000 Olympic Games on Wednesday.

Germany had the first touch of the ball in the Canberra match, two days before the formal opening ceremony for the Sydney Games. Soccer matches are being played in Canberra, Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane.
