Best in the World Coming to the Table

Some of the best players in the world will compete on day one of the table tennis competition on Saturday 16 September at the State Sports Centre, including 2nd seed Vladimir SAMSONOV (BLR) in the Men's and Qianhong GOTSCH (GER) in the Women's Doubles.

The opening matches are part of a qualification round, consisting of four Men's and two Women's pairs. A preliminary round will follow with eight groups of three pairs. The winners of this round will meet the eight highest seeded players.

In Women's Group C, GOTSCH, currently ranked 7, and partner Jie SCHOEPP (GER) will be first at the table against US pair Jun Gao CHANG and Michelle DO.

In group E, Otilia BADESCU and Joana Steff MIHAELA (ROM), ranked number 38 and 12 in the world, are facing Oxana KUSHCH and Galina MELNIK (RUS).

In Men's Doubles, SAMSONOV and partner Evegeny SCHTETININ (BLR) meet former World Doubles Champion Peter KARLSSON (SWE) and partner Fredrik HAAKANSSON (SWE) in group F.

Group A contestants Damien ELOI and Christophe LEGOUT (FRA), ranked number 13 and 18, meet the two best Canadian players, Johnny HUANG and Kurt LIU (CAN).
