China's Yang Xia Sets Women's 53-kg Snatch World Record

China's Yang Xia set the women's weightlifting 53-kg category snatch world record with a lift of 100 kilograms at the Sydney Olympic Games in Sydney Monday.

The gold favourite had a strife with Li Feng-Ying of Chinese Taipei, who broke the previous world mark with a lift of 98 kg in her second attempt.

Li Feng-Ying tried 100 in her third attmept, but had no lift.

Yang Xia, who asked 97.5 kilograms in her second try, steadily surpassed Li Feng-Ying's mark by 2 kilograms in the final attempt.

The previous world mark of 97.5kg was set by Chinese Meng Xianjuan in Chiba, Japan last year.
