China Overtakes Germany
The disciplined Chinese women's hockey team beat the higher ranked
Germans, 2-1, in an upset at the State Hockey Centre on Wednesday.The
Chinese have taken the lead in pool D with six points.China surprised Germany with a goal in the second minute of the game, scored by ZHOU Wanfeng from a well executed penalty corner. CHENG Hui made the score 2-0 in the 48th minute, also the result of a slick Chinese penalty corner. 
Germany fought to the last minute, showing why they were silver medallists in this year's Champions Trophy, with a goal coming in the 61st minute from Inga MOELLER. But too often they took on the Chinese one-on-one, highlighting the close marking, physical, Chinese defence. China will play South Africa and Germany, which has four points, go on to meet the Netherlands on Friday 22 September. |
