China, Croat Pairs into Quarterfinals

Croatia's 15th seeded pair Eldijana AGANOVIC and Tamara BOROS have knocked out eighth seeded Singapore duo JING Jun Hong and LI Jia Wei, 3-2, in the round of 16 at the women's table tennis doubles here, Tuesday.

AGANOVIC and BOROSl now advance to the quarterfinals, as do number one seeds LI Ju and WANG Nan of China, who scored an easy 3-0 win over 12th seeded German couple Elke SCHALL and Nicole STRUSE.

The Croatians won their first game 21-16 but conceded the second to JING and LI 21-15.

JING and LI played well in the third game, advancing to a 5-0 lead and maintaining control with a strong attacking game to win 21-9.

But a time-out in the fourth game helped the Croatians break JING and LI's rhythm to level the score at 17-17, after trailing by four points.

The game became a point for point contest with AGANOVIC and BOROS eventually winning 27-25 to take the match into five games.

The final game was another close contest with the mounting tension bringing an outburst from the Croatian coach, who was yellow carded. Finally, AGANOVIC and BOROS brought the score to 25-23 to win the game and the match.
