Ge Fei and Gu Jun Take Gold in Clean Sweep

China continued its domination of badminton at the Sydney Olympic Games on Saturday, taking gold, silver and bronze medals in the women's doubles.

Top seeds and 1999 world champions Ge Fei and Gu Jun defended the gold they won in Atlanta in 1996 with a convincing 15-5, 15-5 win in just 35 minutes over compatriots and second seeds Huang Nanyan and Yang Wei.

They jumped to a 7-2 lead in the first game, then closed out strongly from 9-5 with GE, in particular, quick and clever at the net.

It was more of the same in the second game, with HUANG and YANG unable to regain much ground after trailing 7-1. Their frustration was highlighted with GE and GU pushing the shuttlecock between HUANG and YANG for winners three times in the second game.

China's Gao Ling and Qin Yiyuan completed the sweep earlier on Saturday, winning the bronze medal 15-10 15-4 in a play-off against Korea's Chung Jae Hee and Ra Kyung-Min.

China is looking for another gold in the men's singles later on Saturday when Ji Xinpeng takes on Indonesia's Hendrawan in the final.
