Undoubtedly
the most important economic changes being brought about by the high-tech
and Internet industries will be felt in Mainland China. For years China
has lagged behind other industrialized nations in the Far East in developing
the Internet and high tech industries to its full potential. But in
recent years, efforts are underway to not only catch up, but also to
leap ahead of the rest of Asia. What this means for investors and foreign
technology companies, established or start-up, entering the Chinese
high-tech and Internet marketplace is an opportunity to get in on the
ground floor and capture the early mover advantage in a wide range of
technology and Internet businesses.
As
a result of both China's incredible demand for western business expertise
and venture capital, and the West's interest in investment opportunities
into China's newest emerging marketplace, China Internet Group (CIG)
is planning to host the China Info-Tech Summit 2000 conference this
November in Shenzhen, the first and most successful Special Economic
Zone in China and its high-tech center.
This
conference will bring together Chinese government officials, international
venture capitalists, top executives from leading companies in the US
and China in telecommunications, Internet infrastructure and e-Commerce,
and Chinese entrepreneurs, to discuss and exchange information on China's
emerging information technology and Internet industries. Major topics
to be discussed include Internet enabling technology, wireless Internet,
fiber-optic and other bandwidth solutions, as well as e-commerce and
Internet infrastructure issues.
The
up-coming conference will also serve as a platform for officials from
China's Ministry of Information Industries, the Ministry of Science
and Technology, the Provincial government of Guangdong and the Municipal
government of Shenzhen to explain their policies toward the future of
China's high tech and Internet industries and will cover such topics
as, foreign venture capital investment, business regulations, exit channels
for Chinese high-tech companies, and expected changes from China's entrance
into the WTO.
In
addition, venture capitalists from around the world will learn first-hand
about exciting investment opportunities in China and will be able to
listen to business presentations from some of the newest and most viable
Chinese high tech and Internet start-up companies.
Past
Conferences
China
Internet Group recently hosted an international Internet conference
in Beijing this past June 6-7 called China Internet Venture 2000. The
event was a huge success with over 800 attendees and several hundred
more turned away at the door. The event was extensively covered by the
media and received nightly television broadcasts as well as more than
one hundred articles published in Chinese and western newspapers and
magazines.
Who
Should Attend?
All
attendees will be qualified on an individual basis by CIG and its advisory
board members to ensure that a cross-section of interests, industries
and backgrounds are represented.
Venture
capitalist, angel investors, and top executives for established or start-up
technology companies interested in the high-tech and Internet industries
in China will obtain significant benefits from this conference. Professional
service providers, such as consultants, bankers, attorneys and accountants
will also get first hand knowledge about the high-tech and Internet
industries in China. Leading academics and politicians will also be
part of the mix.
