of postgraduate education,the College of Educational Management

of Resources and Environmental,the School of management and Faculty
of Applied Science & Technology,the Institute of Marxism-leninism-mao
Zedong Thought, the Institute of Educational Studies, the Institute
of Foreign Education, the Institute of Soviet Literature,the Institute
of History,the Institute of the Study of Ancient Books,the Institute
of Developmental Psychology, the Institute of Low Energy Nuclear
Physics,the Institute of Modern Educational Technoiogy,the Institute
of the study of Environment,the Institute of Mathematiics and
education in Mathematics,the Institute of the Study of Unbalanced
System,the Institute of Applied Chemistry and the Institute of
Physical Education;the Chinese Language Teaching Center, the University
Computing Service,the Center for Analysis and Testing,the Educational
Technology Center,the Center for Study of Secondary School Political
Education,the Center For the Study of Secondary Trainng in Computer
and the Institute of Special Eduation.The university also has
an advanced level training center known as Beijing Acadamic Staff
Training Center,which was set up by the order of State Education
Commission. Both 2-year and 3-year full-time courses leading to
the Master's and ph.D degree are offered in the College of Postgraduate
Education. The courses offered in the College of Education Management
and Administration, provide an opportunity to pursue advanced
studies in educational The university has more than 6000 undergraduates, 1300 postgraduates, over 800 refresh course students, more than 6000 night class and correspondence course students and over 200 overseas students. The university operates credit system. Among the students of the universty, some can study for two Bachelor's degrees in different specialities or select a minor in addition to their major field of study. Graduates with a high record of academic achievement can embark on a Master's degree course without taking an entry examination. Students with a record of successful academic work in their study for a Master's degree can take a ph.D course ahead of the regular scheduled date & completion. With over 4000 staff, including 239 professors, 689 associate professors, more than 900 lectures and over 700 research staff, the University has many famous senior scholars of the highest attainments and a great number of young scholars who have been the mainstay both in teaching and in research. In the university, there are 7 subject areas to which the greatest importance has been attached by the State Education Commission, and 89 subject areas in which a Master's degree is awarded and 38 subject areas in which the postgraduate research degree of Ph.D is awarded. The university comes to the prior Position in the number of the subject areas in which Ph.D degrees can be awarded. The enrollment of postgraduates has almost a quarter of that of the undergraduates of the University. Today Beijing Normal University is one of the largest universities in China offering not only first-class fellowship in every principal subject and an unmatched range of undergraduate courses but also an enormous choice of postgraduate courses. The university has taken justifiable pride in its highly qualified personnel.
In carrying out the Reform and Open Door Policy, Beijing Normal University has expanded and and will expand still further its academic communication with foreign countries. It has flourishing exchange programmes with more than 50 universities and research establishments in more than 20 counties and regions, including exchanges of scholars, students research materials, and also joint research projects in various subjects.

University Library with a total stock of over 2,700,000 volumes,
is one of the central libraries in the country. In all departments
of science, such as Biology, Physics and Chemistry, there are
113 general and specialized laboratoies available. The university
also has a publishing house, the Bejing Normal University Pubishing
House, which is among the most prestigious college publishing
houses, and six affiliated factories. Today the university is
embarking on high-tech and production-oriented enteprises and
promising cultural undertakings. Beijing Normal University has
also four affiliated secondary schools, one primary demonstration
school and one demonstration kindergarten.
